The Ssenyimba Association is a registered association with state-recognized public utility status, seated in Braunschweig, Germany.

Origin and goals of the assocation

Deo Kateregga visited us in Braunscweig for three months in Summer 2002. There were, of course, many discussions about his homeland, there were many questions asked by both sides, and many similarities were discovered. He was especially impressed that people who live in rural areas here enjoy the same living standard as those in the city, and that there are even people who wish to move with their families from the city into the country.

In the region around Mazinga that Deo knew from his childhood from visits to his grandparents, the situation is entirely different. Anyone who wishes to become someone moves away and leaves everyone else behind, to dream about the big city themselves. The knowledge of the possibilities that education offers, even in rural areas, developed into an idea for a project. The children in Mazinga were to receive an education, and be shown how they can apply their knowledge locally and to the benefit of the others.

Deo's father had also desired for a long time to do something for the village inhabitants with his inherited land and its buildings. Only two months after Deo's return, the message came that 40 students were already taking classes in the first grade. In the beginning, instruction began in the small rooms that were already in place. Since then, the project has been developing constantly, larger buildings were constructed and more teachers employed.

As friends of the family, we naturally wanted to help. Finally, we decided to become public: in order to accept donations from others, organize events and thus help more, the Ssenyimba Assocation was founded. We now hope to reach as many people as possible with our efforts, and to get them excited for this project. This association is our promise to the students in Mazinga. And with your help, we can achieve a lot together.

Eva Dreyer, Chairman of the Board.
