The Ssenyimba Memorial Project Education isn't only about reading, writing, and arithmetic, but is also about understanding relationships between cause and effect, and being open to new ways of thought. Those who have the opportunity to attend school also have clear advantages in rural areas, which can often be handed down to the entire family. Together with the inhabitants of Mazinga, a school project has been brought to life, with which a path to independence is made possible for the children. |

About the school Thanks to recent building additions, about 210 students are currently being taught at Ssenyimba Memorial School in eight class levels and a continuative vocational program. Eleven state-qualified teachers, who live together with their families on the school facilities, are employed. The new classrooms were built by the village inhabitants of their own accord; only the clay for the bricks and a few other materials (roof coverings, cement, and wood) were provided. The reasoning for this method is, more important than cost reduction, including the families actively in the development process, thus achieving a high level of identification with the project. There are meanwhile nine full-time and two half-time teachers employed. Since Easter 2005, there exists a continative vocational program for advanced agriculture, and a carpenter program is planned. |
