Background information Mazinga is a village not far from Lake Nabugabo in southeast Uganda. It is connected to Masaka, the county seat, by a 13 km long dirt road. The number of AIDS orphans in Mazinga ist relatively high; many children are raised by their grandparents, by their widowed mothers, or in other families. |

There are no primary health care facilities nearby. Health care in Masaka or other distant hospitals ist too expensive for most. The Ssenyimba Memorial School has existed for three
years now. Since its founding, it has developed from an improvised private
initiative to a complex and professionally-run project. |

The initial work is done, and the lively increase in student numbers shows how badly this school is needed. The educational offerings are developed in coordination with the village population, so that the students can be taught according to local needs. |
